Isolario, Libro di Benedetto Bordone

Benedetto Bordone (1460–1531) fue un miniaturista y cartógrafo de la República de Venecia. Su principal publicación es su Isolario, género de libros frecuente en los siglos XV y XVI.

Benedetto Bordone (1460–1531) was a miniaturist and cartographer of the Republic of Venice. His main publication was his Isolario, a book genre common in the 15th and 16th centuries.

Jean Matal (1515-1597) fue un humanista de la Borgoña, especialista en derecho romano, jurista, geógrafo y cartógrafo. Participó en la redacción de Civitatis Orbis Terrarum (ver ESPACIO 6, Paisajes Urbanos) y publicó numerosos libros de cartografía.

Book of some Islands of the World
Jean Matal (1515-1597) a native of Burgundy, was a humanist, specialist in Roman law, jurist, geographer, and cartographer. He collaborated on the edition of Civitatis Orbis Terrarum (see SPACE 6, Urban Landscapes) and published numerous books on cartography.

Frederik de Witt (1629-1706) fue un grabador holandés, acreditado internacionalmente. Fue nombrado ciudadano bueno de la ciudad de Ámsterdam.
El mapa es muy parecido al del mismo nombre del Atlas Maior de Jean Blaeu, probablemente por haber adquirido sus planchas de grabación.
Frederik de Witt (1629-1706) was an internationally accredited Dutch engraver. He was named a good citizen of the city of Amsterdam.
The map is very similar to the one of the same name in Jean Blaeu's Atlas Maior, probably due to the adquisition of his engraving plates.

Cádiz, in Spain, on a half island located in the Great Sea
Pieter Schenk the Elder (1660-1711) was a German cartographer and engraver who worked in Leipzig and Amsterdam. Three of his sons were also engravers, the most remarcable Pieter Schenk the Younger (1693-1775).

El mapa de Joseph Barnola
El ingeniero militar Joseph Barnola (1691-1756) trabajó en Cádiz la mayor parte de sus treinta años de vida profesional. Tuvo a su cargo las obras del Arsenal de la Carraca y fue director de las obras de las murallas desde 1747. Realizó el diseño de la Puerta de Tierra.
Su mapa de 1743, es probablemente el más interesante de la Bahía de Cádiz del siglo XVIII. Se conserva en la Biblioteca del Museo Naval de Madrid, Ministerio de Defensa de España. En la Red de Bibliotecas del Ministerio de Defensa puede localizarse, aunque la imagen no está disponible on line.

The military engineer Joseph Barnola (1691-1756) worked in Cádiz for the better part of the thirty years of his career. He was in charge of the works of Arsenal de La Carraca and was the director of the works on the city walls as of 1747. He designed the Puerta de Tierra, the access gate to the old city of Cádiz.
His 1743 map is probably the most interesting of the Bay of Cádiz from the 18th century. It is kept in the library of Madrid’s Naval Museum, Ministry of Defence of Spain. It is in the Ministry of Defence Libraries Network, although the image is not available online.

The cartographer Carl Johan Gethe kept a journal on board the Götha Layon, a ship of the Swedish East India Company, on a three-year voyage that began in 1746. Carl Gustav Ekberg, a disciple of Carolus Linneaus, was on the expedition as the ship's surgeon.
